The Alpujarras - a great location for Birdwatching

Tuesday, 17 November 2009 10:01 | Written by admin | PDF Print E-mail

Lanjaron in now just under 30 minutes from the Costa Tropical coastline at Salobrena and Motril. It is just 45 minutes by car from Nerja. Granada is just 40 minutes away. This means very quick easy access if you are based in central Andalucia.

Best airport is Granada (40 minutes transfer). Malaga airport and the Costa del Sol are now only 1.5 hours away, which makes birdwatching in this area even more rewarding. We have also had clients arrive in Almeria which is 2 hours drive but does pass through some remarkable desert landscape scenery where at times we can spot a variety of bird life.

Granada's bus station is at Carretera de Jaen s/n, the continuation of Avenida de Madrid, 3 km north west of the centre. All services operate from here except for a few to nearby destinations such as Fuente Vaqueros, Viznar and the Estacion de Esqui Sierra Nevada. Lockers used for more than 24 hours cost 2 Euros and there's a large cafeteria.

Alsina Graells runs to Las Alpujarras, Cordoba eight times daily, Seville nine times daily, Seville nine times daily, Malaga fourteen times daily and Jaen, Baeza, Ubeda, Cazorla, Almeria, Almunecar and Nerja several times daily. You can consult the timetable, fares and destinations at: www.alsinagraells.es
