Mallorca Birdwatching Tours and Holidays

Black Winged StiltMallorca has long been a favourite destination of ours. Originally for the great walking and scrambling opportunities provided by the Tramuntana mountains in the north west of the Island. Recently the birds have taken over! The area is one of the main birdwatching destinations in Europe. Our experience of the island will ensure you have a rewarding, interesting and exciting visit here.

Once off the beaten track in Mallorca then the going can be quite hard but we can tailor most trips to suit either gentle ramblers or more energetic hiker/birdwatchers who wish to combine the birdwatching with ascents of the peaks.

Groups are kept small with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 clients to a trip. A brief itinerary would be a follows:

Day 1
Arrive Palma Mallorca airport. Transfer to our base at Puerto Pollensa (1hr). Accommodation is in apartments or villas within walking distance of the town centre.

Day 2
The S'Albefura. A birding paradise. These wetlands near Alcudia are home to many species of birds. It is a protected site. Hides have been constructed to cause minimum inconvenience to the birds. Too many bird species to list here.

Client quote from latest visit..........."S'Albufera Natural Park - We had 2 days here over our stay. What a set up this is, a huge area of wetland with hides dotted about so you can watch the comings and goings of the bird life. To name a few of the birds we saw:- male and female Marsh Harriers, Osprey, Herons, Hoopoe, Egrets, Lapwings, Snipe, Black-Winged stilts, Sandpipers, Zitting Cisticola, Stonechats thats just naming a few! We thought we had seen a Purple Swamp Hen, when we got home, looked in the book, turns out it was a Moorhen! Im sure moorhens did not look like that when I saw them on the canals in the UK when I was younger."

Day 3
Binifaldo and Tomir. Today we head into the mountains on the trail of the Black Vultures. They are in abundance on the slopes of this fine peak.

Day 4
Boquer Valley and Formentor Peninsular. This wonderful area very close to Puerto Pollensa has great variety. Many species are to be found in spectacular settings and coastal scenery. If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the rare, Eleonoras Falcon.

Day 5
Return day to the S'Albufera. Well worth it!

Day 6
Cuber Reservoir. A great drive through the mountains towards Soller brings us to the Cuber reservoir. We normally see many types of birds of prey here but especially Black and Griffon vultures. Eagles and falcons can be found and well as many smaller birds taking advantage of the year round water supply.

Day 7
Return to Palma Mallorca airport for flight home. Depending on flight times, any available time will be spent in further birdwatching opportunities.
