Scorpion - Buthus occitanus or Buthus ibericus

Thursday, 10 June 2010 20:17 | Written by Kiersten | PDF Print E-mail

Whilst out weeding in the veggie garden recently I came across this scorpion. Its not deadly but can give a very nasty painful sting. It did sting me, but luckily I had gardening gloves on which made sure I did not get the full sting.  The general rule with scorpions is the bigger their pincers the less venomous their sting as they rely on their strength rather than the sting to get their prey. As you can see this one is of the small pincer big venomous tail type.

This is a photo of an Adult Egyptian Grasshopper that was taken in my garden yesterday. They do very little damage which is a good job as there are plenty of them around in my veggie garden here in Andalucia.
