English - Cross Spider

Spanish - Araña de la Cruz

Latin - Araneus diadematus

This species of spider is "Spider of the year 2010" and is being studied by the Iberian Aracnologic Group who are collecting data and detailed pictures. If you have any data or photos on this species please either contact the group or ourselves with the details.

Dragon fly - Desert Darter - (Sympetrum sinaiticum)

Friday, 16 October 2009 00:00 | Written by Kiersten | PDF Print E-mail

So I had another dragon fly encounter by the swimming/wildlife pool recently. I fished a dead dragon fly out of the pool, started to take some photos when a live one came along and sat for me to take some photos. The desert darter is comparatively scarce in Spain, but in recent years it has started to become more frequently encountered. So this is a good find.

Moth - Pale Shoulder (Acontia lucida)

Sunday, 11 October 2009 00:00 | Written by Kiersten | PDF Print E-mail

I never knew that spotting moths is so popular, I had no idea, I take a picture of a moth and someone can identify it for me, amazing. So this one flew into the house and landed on the floor next to the Leonberger's paw, so I took a quick photo, then urged him away from the possible death by dogs paw.

Turkish Gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus)

Friday, 09 October 2009 00:00 | Written by Kiersten | PDF Print E-mail

Spotted this baby Turkish Gecko in our bathroom, how cute is that. There are 2 types of Gecko in Andalucia, Turkish and Moorish and we have both living in the house. They are good to have in the house as they help keep flys down.
