Finished work this afternoon and headed down the hillside to get some computer time and write up yesterday’s birdwatching. Just before 3pm I was literally just outside Lanjaron and finally it happened…a really decent view of a flock of Bee Eaters.
I’ve been hearing them regularly since the start of the month, and have seen groups passing overhead. This time I managed to catch them feeding, just like swallows and martins, swooping over the orchards and gardens right outside the village. So close in fact I could see the insects in their beaks as they caught them.
You can find countless great images of Bee Eaters but they really are spectacular in real life, the colour in their plumage catches the sun and I could have watched for hours…but they noisily drifted away. I could still hear them after they’d moved out of sight. Brilliant, just brilliant. It’s still April, I’ve got the rest of the summer to get some photos…
