After failing to see a single Bee Eater through the month of March, on the 1st April a flock of at least 10 flew directly overhead heading due west above the town of Lanjaron, Alpujarras. Their distinctive calls meant I heard them before I saw them. Incredibly, on the 2nd April, a flock flew overhead again around the same time, about 1:30pm. At 2:45pm, another 2 or 3 birds flew over following the same route.

The significance of the timing of these sightings I have yet to work out, however today (3rd), I heard but didnt see what I think was a smaller group fly overhead again, heading west at around 1:30pm. I had made arrangements to walk down to the village and as I left around 2:30pm, I saw yet another flock of about 10 birds flying in the same direction.

Need to get a clearer picture of their habits and behaviour…must get some photos!
