After a great day yesterday south of Padul it’s back to work today…and Bee Eaters continue to pass over the hillside above Lanjaron in some numbers. Around midday a flock of maybe twenty came by, circling noisily overhead and giving good views before drifting slowly west.
I’ve seen the odd Swift in amongst these groups recently but this time a smaller bird of prey seemed to have successfully infiltrated itself into the throng…no binoculars to hand so identifying it for certain was unfortunately beyond me. how unusual this is and quite what it was up to remains for now a mystery. The Bee Eaters didn’t seem unduly disturbed by its presence and showed no signs of distancing themselves or mobbing it. Hopefully it’ll happen again and I’ll find out.
Continued to hear but not see smaller groups of Bee Eaters as the afternoon progressed and then a pair of Booted Eagles passed through, one pale form and one dark, circling for a short while before moving on. A familiar sight now, but always a wecome one…
